🥭 The Organic Journey of Our Alphonso Mangoes
🥭 The Organic Journey of Our Alphonso Mangoes
From Laterite Rock to a Thriving Orchard in Konkan
The Konkan coast is known for its breathtaking landscapes, rich culture, and world-famous Alphonso mangoes. But behind every premium fruit lies a story of dedication. At Sabnis Farms, that story begins with a barren stretch of land—covered in Jambha Khadak, the hard laterite rock typical of coastal Maharashtra.
Where most would see an impossible terrain, we saw potential. And with patience, organic wisdom, and relentless effort, we transformed this rocky land into a flourishing Alphonso orchard.
🌍 Transforming Laterite Rock into Fertile Orchard Soil
Farming on laterite rock is no ordinary task. The soil is shallow, the rock is dense, and natural fertility is minimal. To give our mango trees the foundation they deserved, we undertook a meticulous landpreparation process:
- Digging Through Solid Rock
Each planting pit was carved out of the laterite rock— 10 feet wide and 5 feet deep, created entirely by manual and mechanical effort.
- Rebuilding the Soil Profile
Every pit was filled with rich, external red soil brought from fertile regions. This soil provides the perfect balance of aeration, moisture retention, and nutrients required for Alphonso mango trees.
- Protecting the Soil with Rock Bricks
To prevent the red soil from washing away during Konkan’s heavy monsoons, the pits were lined with rock bricks. This traditional technique ensures long-term stability and preserves soil health year after year.
This foundational work created a nurturing environment where each mango sapling could take root, grow strong, and thrive naturally.
🌱 Nourishing the Orchard with 100% Organic Inputs
At Sabnis Farms, we believe that the purity of Alphonso mangoes begins with the purity of the soil. That’s why we follow a completely chemical-free approach.
Vermi Compost: The Heart of Our Soil Nutrition
We produce our own vermi compost on the farm using:
- Cow dung manure
- Earthworms
- Green waste
- Dried leaves and organic residues
This compost enriches the soil with essential nutrients, improves microbial life, and enhances the natural sweetness and aroma of the fruit.
Jeevamrut: A Traditional Elixir for Plant Vitality
Our orchard is regularly treated with Jeevamrut, a powerful natural growth promoter made from:
- Cow dung extract
- Jaggery
- Besan (gram flour)
- Indigenous microbial cultures
Applied as a spray or basal dose, Jeevamrut boosts soil fertility, strengthens plant immunity, and supports healthy flowering and fruiting.
🌳 Systematic Upbringing of Every Alphonso Tree
Growing premium Alphonso mangoes is a long-term commitment. Each tree at Sabnis Farms is nurtured with a structured, season-wise approach:
- Careful Planting & Root Establishment
Saplings are planted in enriched pits with proper spacing to ensure sunlight, airflow, and strong root development.
- Organic Feeding at Key Growth Stages
Vermi compost and Jeevamrut are applied periodically to support natural growth cycles.
- Mulching for Moisture Conservation
Dried leaves and organic mulch help retain moisture, reduce weeds, and maintain soil temperature—crucial in coastal climates.
- Natural Pest & Disease Management
We rely on traditional repellents, neem-based solutions, and ecological balance instead of chemical pesticides.
- Pruning & Canopy Management
Seasonal pruning ensures healthy branching, better sunlight penetration, and improved fruit quality.
